Bhagya Ajaikumar is the founder of Swasti. Her work has been inspired by her childhood observation of her mother’s graceful hand applying the perfect red dot to her forehead. These led to her discovery of mudras or hand gestures used in Bharatnatyam, one of India’s classical dance forms. Drawing inspiration from India’s rich heritage and festivities, she blends shimmering colours reminiscent of these with digital media. The result is a fine balance of the traditional with the contemporary. Her installations have been part of numerous shows around the world. She also teaches fine arts to rural children in a small village near Mysore.
