Arpita Kar, is an artist who believes that society is built upon what we learn in our educational institutions. Ive always wanted to depict society and the way of its functioning. Through my current painting titled, ‘Circus’ I have depicted the same. According to me, a circus is an arena or in other words an institution where animals from the wild are brought in and trained. They are taught to live a life that is entirely new to them, a life that goes against the natural order. One can see a Tiger and an Elephant live together and become playful friends, which in the wild would be a rather rare event.
If one were to apply this exact theory in today’s society, people are trained and taught to function within a framework of rules and regulations. Idealistically one tends to adhere to such a structure but realistically one seeks to be free of such imposed restraints. If this isn’t followed then one finds it hard to fit in, this institutional way of living life has had its impacts in many ways on society. However, in due course of time the hope is that we all live our lives outside this framework, without any fear and with a sense of harmony.
I am really glad to be a part of this campaign, as an artist my journey is dependent on how many people I can help through my artwork and this is one of those instances where I am able do so.
